Additional Information

Choir: Collenbrook has a small volunteer choir of about 10-12. The choir sings a variety of music from classical, to traditional, to gospel, to modern. Choir practice takes place Sundays before and after the worship service.

Children’s Time: There is a time for the children (sometimes known as a children’s sermon) in each Sunday morning’s worship service. It is important for the children to know that they are an extremely important part of our church family. The point of this time is not for the children to remember necessarily the object lesson, rather it is to make the impression that God loves them and the congregation loves them. While we realize that children do remember and learn very easily, what we hope is to leave a loving, warm, and fun impression that will carry over a positive feeling about God, Jesus, and the church.

Worship Style: Overall Collenbrook’s style of worship is traditional for a PCUSA or UCC congregation. However, because of the size of our congregation, worship has a degree of intimacy about it. Also, our worship style is formal at times and informal at others. Our hymn selections tend to be a varied as our choir selections. Perhaps the time that most epitomizes Collenbrook’s worship is our sharing of our joys and concerns prior to the pastoral prayer. This sharing of our successes and blessings, as well as our cares and anxieties, adds to the unity and closeness we feel as a church family.

Communion: The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated about seven or eight times a year. It is celebrated on specially selected Sundays of the liturgical year. Among those times that Communion is celebrated are:

The First Sunday of the New Year
The First Sunday of Lent
Maundy Thursday
Pentecost Sunday
Mid-Summer Communion Sunday
The First Sunday of October (World Communion Sunday)
The First Sunday of Advent

We celebrate an Open Table. This means that you do not have to be a member of Collenbrook to worship and receive Communion. All we ask is that in participating you place your trust in the God revealed to us by Jesus Christ. Our celebration of communion is a combination of the styles celebrated by our two congregations, which merged in 1975.

Baptism: As a church in both the PCUSA & UCC traditions, we practice infant baptism and adult baptism. If you are interested in baptism, either for yourself or for one of your children, you are encouraged to contact the pastor. Baptisms are celebrated as part of our regular Sunday morning worship.

Weddings: Weddings for couples who are not members of our congregation are performed at the discretion of the pastor. There are modest fees for use of the church sanctuary and for the services of the pastor for non-members of Collenbrook. Please call the church office if you would like more information.
